This started off as a Yogi Bear inspired raccoon who steals food from campsites and mobile homes but after a couple of rounds of exploration realized it looked too much like Over the Hedge.
Instead I took the same energy and pulled reference from this insanely wonderful animated short named 'Verne on Vacation.
Raccoon Jr. started to walk and talk on his own! didn't even have to work for his personality because he was telling his own story.

Saw this great short film 'Centrifuge Brain' a few years ago about a man obsessed with building ridiculously complex amusement park rides and fell in love with scientist's face! He was so youthful and full of life dispute his calm, measured demeanor.
Took some creative license imaging him such in a lab by himself and eventually befriending one of the lab animals.

I watched Rio for about three weeks on rotation like an annoying toddler and was pretty inspired by the beautiful designs. I pretended I was creating a creator that would look at home in Rio's world.
Was watching ALOT of Fairly Odd Parents at the time. The idea is this girl Lily who's obsessed with banjos and punk rock music and never goes anywhere without her beloved cat Rummy Tubs.
Started with the sketch on the far left and it somehow morphed into, well.. This. lol
